Are you sure this is the plant that was said to be Primula fransisca Arif?

http://www.google.co.uk/search...

This looks like a woody plant, how big does it grow and is it deciduous? The habit reminds me so much of Iochroma so it could be in the same family.

In fact it reminds me a lot of Browallia, B. speciosa is very similar but not as far as I know a woody plant.

Brunfelsia pauciflora comes close!

Yes. It does have a woody stem and I have had it for two years. Does not look like a Primula and the leaves are different, smother. The leaves match Browallia but then Browallia does not have a backbone.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B... Like this one.
http://www.californiagardens.c... Like this one also Shrug! Janet you decide.
Mine does like the shade and cooler environment, free draining soil mix, acidic conditions(one of three that I give Mag Sulf to). Same conditions that a Gardenia would like. First time it has flowered so I have as yet not noted any colour changes involved. I was told it was a small tree about 10 feet high but then that can also mean a tall bush.

Arif.

Arif, I don't think I can decide. Shrug! Read this discussion ..

http://forums.gardenweb.com/fo...

I found some clues to a few Brunfelsia which may help to confirm or exclude, but uniflora isn't one of them.

http://www.erowid.org/plants/d...

"uniflora" does suggest single flowers rather than in cymes, although it looks like more buds forming next to a flower at the end of a stem, they could be single flowers coming from new leaf stalks. I don't know how that compares with other species.

I sure wish that when people upload photographs they would also kindly fill in the data fields.
Good evening Lin, last night(my time) I was reading the link Janet gave.
http://forums.gardenweb.com/fo...
In the last post some one has commented about lack of perfume and gave this name B. grandiflora.
"If it is highly fragrant, definitely lean to it being B. australis, but nary a scent, as sultry night in Louisiana mentions is potentially (more likely to be) a B. grandiflora."
Just checked and mine is nary a scent.

Ok! It is changing colour, the flower. Turning lighter and the red tone is now getting predominant but no perfume at all.

Now one question not related to above. Does acidic medium have influence on the colour of the bloom and does it tend towards blue?

Arif.

B. grandiflora is an accepted name Arif, but the flowers I think are in a cyme where yours so far look to be single as in "uniflora". Are you getting cymes?

http://bioweb.uwlax.edu/bio203...

Whether or not the type of growing medium affects the colour is another matter, it usually does but in this case the flower colour changes anyway and I imagine heat, sun and or shade would have an effect so it's almost like asking how long is a piece of string.

The above link has several tabs along the top to explore about the plant!

Janet the blue is very weak and get bleached out first. Then I suppose it will be the turn of the red and the flower should go white. One thing though, no perfume(smells like morning glory vine never checked the flowers) as to bunches of flowers Shrug! . Let it be given some more time to decide, this is the first time it is flowering.
Ok! Went and checked in torch light. Each open flower has a second bud right behind it and one, two flower bunch also seems to have a bud. So while the first flower is going pink there is a second blue one right behind. I suppose when the first one goes white then the third one will open. So that will explain the morning, afternoon and night rigmarole in a way.
Corymb or Umbel to early to say. I prefer the Umbel design.

Arif.

Arif, you can copy and paste the text into Google translate and it works fairly well. Your first link is in Spanish and I tested the first paragraph. Give it a try.

I use "translate with Bing", highlight the text then right click over the arrow and select Bing.

This is the first link translation ..

Lima is known as Francisca (comes from its synonym Franciscea SP.), in the Peruvian jungle as Chiricsanango, in Uruguay as Jasmine from the Paraguay, in Europe as jasmine in America and in the United States and England as Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Some also call it angry Solana since it belongs to the family of the Solanaceae. This shrub Evergreen native to tropical America, is one of the Favorites of our city but the bad thing is that it requires a moderate consumption of water and does not tolerate drought.

The most attractive of the Francisca is having flowers that change color: violet born, become lavender and finally end up white. This transition allows you to see different shades of purple on the ground, especially between April and November. In addition, it attracts butterflies, which are so scarce in Lima.

As if there wasn't enough this spectacle, the Francisca seduces us with fragrance that emit their flowers that appear to have five petals but really are unipetalos. In aromatherapy, this perfume is used to think clearly and make safe decisions as well as to disseminate ideas. When it comes to plant it in the garden, should not be they located very close to the rooms as the fragrance can be extreme.

This shrub can reach four meters in height and has a round shape that can reach three metres. It is fast-growing and requires well-drained soil enriched with organic material. If it is that oval leaves begin to flame it, they should be placed fertilizers and nutrients. As for pruning, it can be made at the bottom, showing the basal branching and give a look of small tree. It is advisable to prune the shrub after winter flowering.

We recommend planting this shrub in the back of a mixed border or on the basis of a set of high palms. It grows and florea best in spaces with partial Sun. Direct midday sun, should not fall because it can burn the leaves. As irrigation, it is regular, but should not be encharcar as it may damage the roots. Like almost all plants with flowers, is also sensitive to pests. If it seizes him whiteflies, mealy or aphids, you must spray immediately.

The Francisca is used as a natural medicine in different parts of the Amazon. It is even one of the plants that are used for preparing the Ayahuasca brew. However, should know how to use it because it can be toxic, producing delusions and drunkenness. For this reason, should take care of pets or children when the plant is present in the House.

Janet I will give you a picture of the cymes. As to this perfume hanky panky, it is confusing. I have a feeling it might be doing something else at night but in the day time no perfume at all.
It seems to be becoming another puzzle. It is 1.39AM could not go to sleep so checked.

Arif.

I think on balance, taking into account flower colour and leaf shape, I would go with Brunfelsia pauciflora. It has an AGM, which makes a plant more widely grown due to it's many qualities. I have checked leaf shapes, along with flower descriptions of others and this seems to match best.

B. pauciflora is a spreading, bushy evergreen shrub to 3m in height, with glossy ovate leaves and terminal clusters of flowers 4-5cm across, opening purple and fading to near white.

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantse...

On the following site, the flower description matches well..

purple white eye ringed blue

http://www.erowid.org/plants/d...

That's about the best I can suggest, but it's not certain.
