We have one feral cat around, but its so fat it probably can't eat any more voles. Hilarious!

How about a Rat Terrier? They love voles, mice, rats, squirrels, rabbits, and make great gardening companions. If she is out in the yard she won't let the birds land in the beds. Thumbs up

Thumbs up Good guard animals Lynn! Unfortunately we're gone from home about 10 hours a day to work, so it really isn't fair to leave an indoor pet alone that long. And with our nasty winters, we wouldn't have an "outside only" pet. Crying

My cats get almost a vole a day during warm weather and fortunately they don't usually throw them up. We had fewer voles when we had more foxes around but a local plague of mange killed many foxes, so now my cats have more work to do. The main reason my cats go outdoors in the daytime is to do varmint control.

It's cold and snowing right now so the old lazy pusses don't want to go out.

Some of my friends who have cats let them go outside via a cat flap. We don't do cat flaps because other animals can come in through those (like racoons), plus we keep the cats in at night so they don't get eaten.

Another friend has a cat flap on her out building so her cats can have shelter.

There are the type with magnets that go on their collars, but if they're not used to it, they may get them off...Raccoons are a problem for cat/dog door people here in Seattle too! My brother heard a noise late one night thought it was one of the cats coming home or leaving but they sounded loud and clumsy, so he got up to investigate and it was a large raccoon in the kitchen and began arching and growling, that scared him! Luckily one of the cats woke up and the raccoon didn't want to deal with both a human and a cat! Sticking tongue out

No dog or cat doors here. We have racoons, skunks and opossum, not to speak of all the other neighborhood cats. Blinking

Yeah, we have too many other critters that would use them too.

I have a cool microchip cat flap. My cat has his unique microchip in his neck with our address and phone details stored on it. The flap is programed to open for only that chip. We had a magnetic one before that, but so did half the cats in the neighbourhood, so we had frequent visitors. This keeps them all out Thumbs up

Yes, that was/is a very informative article and comments from others. Very helpful. I had forgotten about it. I have new vole holes all around my raised beds. They've taken up living in the old gopher holes. Going to give dormantsrules' idea a try.
It's also time to start putting slug bait out, at least here in my area.
