... within the Missouri Botanical Garden in Saint Louis. Not originally intended as a "plant combination", according to the head gardener in that area... they have nevertheless turned out to be exactly that.
Morus alba 'Unryu' [Contorted Mulberry] is a deciduous tree with contorted, zigzag branching that can grow to 30-40 feet. It is usually pruned, however, to be a much smaller shrub 7-16 feet tall. Inconspicuous flowers are followed by small, edible purple fruits...
Juniperus chinensis 'Kaizuka' normally grows 15-30 feet tall... although many gardeners keep it smaller through VERY judicious pruning. Each plant has its own unique growth habit. Being a Juniper, it is susceptible to several diseases and insect infestations. In my area the biggest threat is bagworms... Spraying with Bacillus thurengiensis has proven to be an effective control mechanism.
