As a wayward youth, I stole a watermelon from a neighbor's patch and my mate and I devoured the whole thing, to destroy the evidence of our theft. It was a large melon. When it came back up, I found the texture of the seeds distressing.

It was several years before I could even look at, let alone eat, a watermelon.

Watermelon is the only melon I like , but even though I love salt did not care for it on the melon. Now cut a small hole in the side and let a pint of vodka seep in overnight. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

nature keeps amazing me
When my mom moved to Jersey from Newfoundland her world opened up to all the fruit we grow here. Not much grows on that cold rock up north. Every summer she'd cut a watermelon in half, grab a cold beer, fork and knife and sit out back on the lawn chair and indulge. That melon didn't stand a chance. She didn't use salt. My hubby loved melons-any of them and he used salt. Our Bull Terrier used to sit and wait for his piece of melon. Watermelon was his favorite. Me-I don't eat melon. It upsets my stomach.

The only watermelon I would consider is vodka-watermelon.
Apparently, you drill into the watermelon, pour out any juices, tip-in a bottle of vodka and let the vodka absorb into the watermelon. Any residual vodka that comes out is watermelon flavored, too. Then you can cut it up and eat it for a boozy treat.

Otherwise, not a fan of food that drips all over me making me look like I wet myself. Sticking tongue out

I don't like raw cucumbers either. I HATE sweet pickles but I love Bread and Butter or Dill especially.
As for apples, I've never put salt on mine. I hate tart apples like Granny Smith, I prefer sweet apples like Fuji.

Mine to. People will just have to call me strange because I'm not the fondest of watermelon. Hilarious! Cantaloupe is great, especially with a little salt. Smiling

A good cantaloupe is sure hard to beat, but watermelon is still above cantaloupe for me. I've never encountered a type of melon I don't like, so I guess I'm just a melon guy in general lol.

I found a hothouse cucumber that I love (Socrates from Johnny's) and look forward to picking the first of the season.

Besides slicing, in salads, I also chop them and mix them with yogurt, chopped scallions, and herbs for masto khiar, a dish I got from a Persian landlady when I was at college.
