I remember being advised years ago by a pro, that avocados are TREES that don't like their roots messed with and therefore, should be planted in relatively large containers for their size. I think yours needs a bigger container, they don't take well to bonsai-like cultivation. Be careful when transplanting not to damage that tap root though.
