This is a problem I've run into a couple of times when purchasing plants from nurseries - they aren't all as careful as I am not to pass a problem along to a customer. As far as I've been able to find out, there is no cure, and even taking cuttings won't help as it's in all the tissues even before the symptoms show up.

Nasty!

She did say "taking cuttings" which would normally imply sedum over sempervivum for most people but I'm sure she'll clarify soon.

You right, I missed the part where she said cuttings. I hope I never see that in my beds. Blinking

Yes, sorry it was a Sedum - this was called Sedum x 'Moonglow' so I'm not sure of the parentage. It almost looks like spathufolium, but bigger and green.

I don't know a whole lot about it, and I'm not sure how contagious it is or even if it will spread, but I'm not taking chances with my whole collection. Too bad, it's culled!

Which sedum was it Jacki.
I found this short explanation of bacterial crown gall. Sounds like you are doing all the right things and should not have a problem in your other plants. I now see how important it is to isolate new plants for awhile. Thank for for that advice twit.

This is too funny! I'm poking around looking at things, and saw this:

Thumb of 2011-05-27/BlueFox/178656

I thought, man that looks like a Dicentra, but teeny. So I look closer:

Thumb of 2011-05-27/BlueFox/b4076b

What I thought was crown gall isn't - it's some kind of ephemeral root, like I don't know, Corydalis maybe??? I'm going to watch this, and see what it is. That would be cool to get some kind of free rare alpine plant in the midst of a screwed up order!

Don't I feel like a donkey! Anyway, just goes to show, you never stop learning.

May be next year before it blooms, although going back and looking at the foliage, it sure looks healthy. Maybe it will bloom this year. Thumbs up
