I'm thinking about buying a Orchid (Rhyncholaelia digbyana) and found a few online sites that carry it; a couple of places were in California but the above vendors are located here in Florida which would mean a much shorter time for a live plant in the back of a delivery truck. I didn't find any references for these vendors in our Green Pages and was wondering if anyone here has had experience with the above three companies.

Thanks in advance for any advice or info y'all can offer. I tip my hat to you.

Yes, I have knowledge about all 3.

Jim Roberts is a great guy, good stuff and over the nine years i was in Florida, I made sure to pick something up from him when he was a show vendor or club speaker. I don't know if it will do you any good, or even if he remembers me, but feel free to say that I sent you! It couldn't hurt.

Rafael over at Plantio is another good guy. He has always had some wonderful species including digbyana. I have bought from him often!
Odom I don't know as well but along with Plantio and Jim Roberts, he was a yearly vendor at our annual show in Naples. I never visited his place but he is another nice guy!
I don't think that you can go too far wrong with any of them.
Good luck.

Plantio, Odom's, Florida SunCoast, Krull-Smith, Palmer's Orchid, Bredren's Orchids and Accent Orchids are ALL great growers and understand the reality of shipping plants. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Yes, all of those growers sell at our yearly orchid show here in Sarasota. Wonderful plants.

Rafael at Plantio la Orquidea is a terrific guy, and he's my local source for sure, too. I'm sure I've bought more orchids from him than anywhere else. He offers bargains on bare-root starts of some amazing Cattleyas, and I've done well with them over the years for very little money. I got my digbyana from him, too. It's been a very good plant, flowering twice a year, and with two or three blooms at a time. Except this year, of course when a rat invaded the cage and ATE ! ! both the buds off it.

You will love it. Not only are the flowers amazing, they smell absolutely delicious.

Lin, I saw beautiful Digbyanas at an Odom's booth at a show up here. They are located in Ft. Pierce, isn't that pretty close to where you live? You could possibly pick one out in person, no shipping worries. In this heat I would be wary of shipping anything.

I just looked at Odom's web page. They have digbyana in stock for $45. That is a pretty good price because these guys might be a lot harder to bloom then they are to grow. They readily turn into larger plants.
There is a phone number provided as well as Saturday hours. They are there during the week as well.

Yes, Odom's is only about 30 miles south of me but unfortunately, I don't drive much anymore. I always worry about plants being shipped through the mail during the heat of summer so when I do mail order plant purchases, I usually only order during early spring. We have a neighbor who said that she visits Odom's on occasion, so I may go with her the next time she heads down there, or have her pick one up for me if it's still available.
