Herbertia it is a genus in Iridaceae family. It comprises 8 species. One native to USA, others native to South America.

The species native in USA is Herbertia lahue (Molina) Goldblatt, common name Prairienymph or Prairie Nymph.
Wikipedia says that is endemic in texas but USDA says that distribution is Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Looking at the map on the page above, I think it's possible to find the plant in the coastal zone of Alabama, too.

As the common name, Prairie nymph, suggest, it is an exotic beauty. Small and delicate.

What a grand little flower!

Justin, thanks for your photos! I believe these are the ones I found on my mom's yard a year ago. I'm hoping my 3 plants will bloom soon and then I can compare them with your photos.

Visited my mom and she has another one blooming in her yard. The 3 in pots were blooming but I missed them blooming.

I like those.
