when the manager walked up and asked if I needed help. I said yes... she needed to lower the $110.00 price on the spruce so I could afford it. She said it was new and she couldn't adjust the price.
But then she said, "I do have [pointing behind me] those three Deodar Cedar [they too were marked $110.00]. "I've had them too long and need to get rid of them."

One of the three still had a central leader and a dense, full form... so I pointed to it and said, "How much?" Much to my surprise she said, "How about $10.00?" [No, that's not a typo.]

This transaction took place just before concrete contractors came to our center and started replacing a bunch of sidewalks and parts of the parking lot. Part of that work involved tearing out part of my shade tree bed.......................

I decided I could stand or sit out there... watch them work... and occasionally go somewhat ballistic over what was being done to my garden...............................
OR....................................
I could sit inside and do other things while they worked... then go out when they left and preserve what I could and improve in areas not affected by construction... then tackle the rest when they left.

I chose the second option... and I'm "handling" the construction far better than I thought I would.

I've also paid more attention to some areas of my beds than I had in quite a while... and I found a few solutions to problems that made those areas light up and look terrific..................

In the newest portion of the shade tree bed it is time for the "BLUES !!!"...

Your tale of "handling" construction is inspiring. Your gardens are inspiring.

I grow a purple Culver's Root called "cupid". I really like the white Culver's Root in your Blues garden. By chance do you know which variety it is?

Hello Lori...
My Culver's Root is simply V. virginicum 'Album'...................
I've tried, probably too hard, to get friends and fellow gardeners to like this little jewel... to no avail... so I'm delighted you like it too.

The Oklahoma rule for liking flowers seems to be, "The bigger the better."
I've decided, since my friends are as old as I am, that they just have too much trouble doing the bending over and bending down it takes to really appreciate little blooms like Culver's Root.
I could be wrong about this... on the other hand, I've seen several of them try to bend down... then straigthen up.
The joys of old age !!!!!!!!!
