I bought some daylily seeds this winter, and I have had them in the fridge since I recieved them. I was wondering if I could plant them straight outside, I meant to start them inside but just never got to it. Any ideas?? Kim

Im getting ready to start planting daylily seeds outside as well.I have a bunch started inside but have no more room for anymore so all the rest get started outside.Im waiting till the 15th suppose to past danger of frost then.

I had good results starting seeds outside, in seed-starter trays, about two weeks before our last frost date. I kept them in our open wood frame and covered it with burlap during nights when temps were 37-40 degrees (I'd bring inside for frost-nights). Then, when overnight temps stabilized over 40 I transferred them to small pots, and finally put then in the ground at overnight 50 degrees. They are doing well in the ground now as the temps continue to warm. :}

I have had good luck straight sowing outside right into my seedling beds.I usually sow mine mid-april which is about 2-3 weeks prior to our frost date here. I have kitties so inside starting is impossible for me
I believe Margo Reed and Jim Murphy of Woodhenge Gardens, straight sow most of their seedlings, so it is do-able.

I also have good results sowing outside. I sow mine in pots in early May and then transplant in the ground in August.

I plant my seeds outside in the soil in November, but often times buy a few seeds on the auction later in the winter. Those seeds get planted out in April not long before the fall seeds usually begin germinating. At line-out time in June, you can't really tell them apart. Actually, my fall planted seeds are just starting to break through the ground in the last day or so. Always a fun sight to see !

Nature plants her seeds directly into the ground, so I would imagine we could do the same.
