I have had good luck straight sowing outside right into my seedling beds.I usually sow mine mid-april which is about 2-3 weeks prior to our frost date here. I have kitties so inside starting is impossible for me *Blush*
I believe Margo Reed and Jim Murphy of Woodhenge Gardens, straight sow most of their seedlings, so it is do-able.
