Maybe a good windstorm knocked them over? Did you plant a new-to-you variety?

Yes. If you notice the previous posts I used to plant beans I got from a 5 gallon bucket at the local farmer's co-op but the past couple of years there were pole beans mixed in with the bush so I went with Burpee's Tendergreen. I know nothing about that variety.

Hopefully they'll produce well regardless of their growth habit! I've never had them flop like that, and I don't hill up soil around the base, so it's a mystery to me.

I forgot to mention I watered yesterday and let it go too long. I put an inch and half on. Probably too much at once. Later today they are starting to stand back up. Maybe they'll be alright.

Got another related question on picking green beans. I try to let the pods get plump the entire length of the pod but many will have a plump section and a skinny section. Will those semi skinny kind plump out the entire length eventually?

I'm pretty sure the skinny part was unpollinated and won't fill out cuz there are no bean seeds.
Plant it and they will come.

I agree - it's not going to fill out no matter how long you leave it on the plant.

That's what I figured. I've always picked them when the plump portion was big enough but I was picking so many good ones this morning I left those half ones on the plant. I'll get them the next time. I got 1 1/2 five gallon buckets this morning. That's enough for one day.

Wow! Great harvest. I picked and pulled mine this morning. Will replant a second crop if it looks like there is a chance of rain.

That's a lot of beans, Kwinch - are you freezing them, canning them, or ?

I canned 14 quarts today. Did 7 on the first picking. If they are like previous years once you start picking they produce more and more.
