Same here. I covered with pots and tarps just to be safe but a little on shore breeze developed overnite which helped. Temps holding right around 40' F. I see the whole state of Michigan is below freezing this morning--we got lucky (so far).
We live near a major lake and have that protection. The southerntier is under frost watch for next 2 nights and some snow-rain is predicted for early mornings.
I was going to the greenhouse where I buy annuals but will put it off for a week.
I lost that lake breeze and the temp dropped 8 degrees in 15 minutes to 32.8'. Light frost on the roof of the garden shed and I see frost one the roof of my truck now, but none on the grass. Big warm up to high 80's maybe 90 on the way tomarrow, but you still have one more night to go, Jo Ann. I got lucky this time.
I feel sorry for those fruit growers in Michigan (apples, peaches, cherries, grapes), Welches, etc. That entire state was below freezing this morning including a state low of 21'F at Ann Arbor. That's terrible.
They are species and last year they measured 30 inches and had skimpy bloom.Ther are 2 bulbs there and only one showed last year. Its so nice to see things back to normal.
I must have lost one of the 3 Backhouse plants, They are looking fantastic.
