Welcome to NGA, @SDlilacs Smiling

Are the beans you are growing pole beans, or maybe a type of runner bean? Unless they're a bush bean, they do best grown up a trellis or on something like a "teepee" support; the plants will twine around the poles or trellis (they don't make tendrils to cling to the support the way squash and cucumbers do).

This is a photo of pole beans growing on trellis netting

I prefer the teepee. I use bamboo poles but any long stick will do. Seven poles work well for each teepee.
