That is a gorgeous hybrid! Maybe my favorite involving Myrmecophila!
But I was interested in learning about this hybrids parentage.
Myrmecophila brysiana came as no surprise. It has proved itself as a parent over the years. Color intensity is always pumped up.
Seeing the hybrid name Adrian Hamilton, gave me an obvious lead to the hybridizer, Claude Hamilton probably. So that is another huge factor towards producing a good hybrid.
But I was amazed by the other parent, Lc. Jalapa. Jalapa was registered in 1972. That's 50 years ago! I know that that is quite a few years ago, not ancient, but ages ago. So somebody got access to a plant that a. Has been around for 50 years ago or b. Somebody remade the cross! ( I am leaning towards remake) Jalapa originally was a good parent in producing red offspring. It captured a few flower quality awards. But I am intrigued by the prospect of the offspring of the remake. It might have been remade using superior parents to the original. But it is just the judge in me that wonders about this stuff. Regardless, I doubt if the original parents of 50 years ago could have produced something this good!
