Thread OP

Interested after a great begonia thread https://garden.org/thread/go/5... went away from plants and towards using computers or phones to view and post here, but had some great comments and discussion.

Figured I'd start a new one and let that one get back to begonias.

My main take-away is that grabbing a few shots with my phone and posting them here is so quick and easy. Phone cameras have gotten so good, even old cheap ones like mine, do fine for sharing plant shots for ID and questions and appreciation.

For actual photo comparison and editing, desktop hands down.

I love checking this forum after work at my brewery, always on my phone but if a reply is more than a dozen words I wait to get home.

Weekends, desktop only (except for pictures).

How about you?

The same feeling- to share a picture I'd rather open the phone and do it directly. I have posted a photo in a thread, then gone back on chromebook to edit the post with more words.
Chromebook is kind of clunky for posting, I have to find in Photos, then download, then share. Here's what my jerk cat did to my pretty Streptocarpus
Phone typing as hard and my new phone spell 'correct' seems terrible. I think I see other making the same kind of simple typing errors and am learning to loosely interpret wording and spelling.

Plant it and they will come.

Except for looking @ maps & weather, I've only ever used the internet with a computer, laptop the past few yrs. I don't do much else with my computer anymore since Yahoo games went away. This is my only "social media." I use it for plant list/chatting, and to have access to reservations & other internet info while away from home.

Not real good with a phone. I was much more comfortable when they hung on my kitchen wall.
I usually take a photo with my phone email it to my self and post with my computer which has a 30" screen, much easier to see what I am doing.
Plants are like that little ray of sunshine on a rainy day.

That does works great. I normally just hook my phone to my PC and transfer them that way. Probably takes longer.

I try to take advantage of by taking lots.

I'm normally looking for one good photo so I'll take six.

Even on a phone I can get a good idea of which to choose.

After hopefully finding a good one I can just upload right to a thread.

I guess it's the convenience of having the camera and computer and connection and browser right there, I can be in the middle of the marsh or the redwoods and do the same thing.

Most of my shots are just from work, but same idea.

I do more careful and higher resolution photography in bot gardens with various cameras (and phone too). So I download and edit on computer. And I built up gigantic libraries over the years. Some of them I off load to hot drive and I don't always have them with me .
So for casual stuff like my plants I mostly use the phone, but still I regularly reduce my stash on iCloud by offloading to the laptop: I fill up storage very quick 😁. 200-400 pics in 1 visit is a norm 😎.
So I often do not have an old pic for discussion on icloud, but only on laptop.
So I resize and upload from laptop usually.
But I post from phone often enough (and constantly find and edit new typos..). And then add pics to posts later. But I resize even from the phone by e-mailing a small size to myself.

I also try to crop right away on my phone. That's about all the editing I do. Phone is backed up to Google every night.
I got a new phone a month ago, and changed my Google password, now I don't see my old library except for albums. weird. Sighing!
Plant it and they will come.
