Is there something wrong with our magnolia tree? (I have no idea what type of magnolia it is as it was planted by previous owner.) We recently built a pool and the tree hasn't been doing well since completion of the build. Most of the leaves are falling off yet there is still evidence of new growth (aka - flower buds). However, it's not getting better. Our last 2 winters here in north Texas had 2 major ice/snow storm events that were pretty brutal for our area.

Welcome! to the forum Kmhayes1110!
Your tree is a Southern Magnolia and looks like 'Little Gem'.Magnolias hate having their roots disturbed and ice storms aren't their faves either, so yours got a double whammy. How long ago did the construction happen? If it's just this year then wait to do anything. If it was last year, go ahead and give it a dose of Miracle-Gro. Typically you don't fertilize a struggling plant, but yours could use a good kick in the pants. Follow the directions and it should stimulate new growth. Liquid feeds work faster than dry fertilizer and are harder to overdo, as long as you follow the directions.

And if it doesn't well, might be something to plant better than having those big tough leaves blow in the pool. Shrug!
Plant it and they will come.
