Hi, I live in Utah and quite new to gardening. Today I found this spider on one of my greenstalk gardens were I'm growing tomatoes and flowers and would like to know what type of spider it is and if it is poisonous. Thanks in advance!

I think that's right; in any case it's not poisonous. There are three poisonous spiders in the US, the black widow, the brown widow and the brown recluse. Of these the brown recluse is the one that causes the most bites, because they are often found in the house. The widows are found outside, often under rocks, empty pots or outside structures. They are shy creatures and seldom bite, not unless they are hard pressed. The brown recluse is a small brown spider with a fiddle pattern on the back.
