My clematis has finished flowering and I'd like to know if and how/when I should prune it. I've had it several years but this is the first time it has flowered.

Welcome Scottie16 to the forum. You can deadhead the blooms if you don't want
seedpods. They will rebloom! Do you fertlize? It is getting late in the season to
cut back in the cooler zones. We here don't cut back after 7/15 of each year. If you
do cut back, leave 3 leaf nods from the soil and when you are done cutting back fertilize with a 20/20/20 for the first feeding. Then set a day and fertilize with half
strength for a month and you see them growing again. Once they reach 3 to 4 feet then switch to a bloom blooster. Here we can get spring and fall blooms! If you want seedpods, just leave the plant to do what it is going to do.
