Why does my bromeliad only have one pup growing? I heard that removing the mother plant could provide more energy to promote additional pups to grow. Also do I leave the pup and remove the mother plant as it dies? Or do I repot the pup completely? And what soil do I use?

Sometimes you get one pup, sometimes you get two, or three. With this particular plant I've only had one or two. The pup looks good, I would cut the flower off now though.

Wouldn't removing the mother plant remove any chances of additional pups?

I was advising to cut the flower brown stem off, not the plant, mostly so it looks nicer than anything else. Sorry if came across wrong, but NO don't remove the mother plant.

On this particular bromeliad I let mother die off on her own, the smaller pup will keep growing larger as the mother fades away, you can cut off brown leaves to keep it looking better.
