He is a guy who grows (hybridizes?) tropical plants. Years ago when many of us were on a site called Dave's Garden, a precursor to this site, he was just a kid doing some interesting growing and he was active on the site. I think he might still be in the business, Gina would know for sure.

He is. He owns Brian's Botanicals. He lives in Kentucky. Yes he was very young when he first appeared on GardenWeb and Dave's Garden. I think his father is a farmer...? Can't really remember..but his dad helped him get started in the plant business. He had a special interest in tropical plants and especially aroids. He has hybridized several things. He isn;t as prolific by a long shot as someone like Lari Ann Garner, but he has done pretty well. He is quite active in the International Aroid Society. Unfortunately he tends to be overly expensive in his sales from his webpage. He is the person who was (maybe still is) offering small plants of Colocasia Black Marble for over $500 each, when they are available from some pond wholesale sites for $14.99.

Alocasia Lauterbachiana. I purchased one this year, and then wound up rescuing one. So, I stuck it in the pot with the one I had already. I really love the leaves and I really want to put it outside. I'm just not sure where. So for now it seems happy on my lanai.

I've always loved Lauterbachiana. I have an old one in the greenhouse. Its been my experience that it goes dormant in the winter. It will be interesting to see if yours does

I'm scared now... I don't want it to go dormant since the whole time I'll be wondering if it's dead! If it does go dormant how should I care for it? What to you do about watering.

I don;t water mine when they go dormant. I just set the container (if its in one and not in the ground) in a corner and wait til Spring. This one is Purple Prince. It ALWAYS goes dormant. Cannot stay up.

This is one my oldest and most favorite alocasias. Unfortunately it goes dormant almost every darn winter. This is the original plant that people used to refer to as African Mask and the Kris plant. But this alocasia became rare when alocasia Poly came onto the market and now most people have forgotten about the original namesake and call Poly by these common names. This is Alocasia sanderiana 'Nobilis'.

I was in the Walmart garden center here today. They have about 4 different types of Alocasia that are inexpensive, but with NOID. Just says Alocasia. Didn't have my phone with me to take pics, but I might stop by tomorrow to grab some pics. I have decided not to buy any more plants unless I really know what they are. Costa Farms has gotten really bad about providing Identification for its plants. Many now only say houseplant
Costa is such a huge operation now. It seems wherever I go there is a Costa Farms. I even saw one outside Asheville, NC. I would love to know what they grow in a climate like that, heating a GH would be pretty expensive.
