About 13 years ago I bought a 4 inch starter of variegated D braunii -correct me somebody if I have species wrong- anyhow, after many divisions, cuttings etc one of the babies is now This near 6 foot beauty.

I love this plant because it takes lots of conditions with no problem and grows erect and narrow and I think the leaves are very graceful.
Well, now This guy is becoming unstable. At the base we see three separate root masses as they started as three cuttings put together.

I feel they won't be able to get any better in fact there may be some pushing from new stems.
Now instead of sticks and strings around 'waist height '
which I don't care for, I think I'll try tying some main stems closer down near the base and see how that feels.
Or just go radical, rip the three apart, repot but spaced.. who k ows how I'll feel any given day. It has a little sister coming along so not a total loss any way.

Plus three more pots of cuttings can you tell I am a fan of this plant? Great for office environment.
Plant it and they will come.

Very nice!

I'm a big fan of dividing.

What abut 3"+ bamboo stakes up against the stalk?

When you say "sticks and strings around waist height" I envision more of an exterior cage, might be wrong.

I agree I have one is very old and just keeps going and going . Easiest care .

Humboldt-
I want to avoid the sticks around with string around look- I favor hidden support to lift and separate as it were.. ahem.
I did put one bamboo stick in.

The begonia is a Sophie Cecile or similar cultivar, gotten huge, hoping for blooms!
Plant it and they will come.

I get it, just that to me sticks implies inconspicuous stakes tucked up close to the stem. Sticks and string I think of as totally different, with multiple stakes on the exterior of the pot and string around those as a support cage. Works well for a while but gets ugly quickly.

I think you and I have the same idea.. hidden support.
But I'm not sure individual stakes, or a few stake close together, interior to the plant, will do it.
If it had been outside with air movement it may have grown sturdier. Some new natural offshoots of these are surprisingly beefy.
Plant it and they will come.
