First, let me say...I am not an expert on hybridizing plants. OR plant genetics. I am a dabbler, I dabble with my own stuff, and only Anthuriums, nothing else.
This is an Anthurium hybrid I made, its one of my oldest seedlings, 2 or so years now
The plant that made the seeds (the ovule plant) was this plant, Anthurium forgetii
I'm not totally sure who the parent plant was. It might have been this one, Anthurium magnificum
Or it could have been this one, Anthurium besseae x magnificum
Regardless of who the pollen parent was, this seedling is what is called an F1.
F1 means 'first filial generation' and refers to the seedlings produced from the first cross of 2 different parent plants. (I only know this because I red up on it LOL)
If I were to use the pollen from the seedling or pollinate the bloom it just made (I won;t pollinate it because its too young, but I could use the pollen) and get another set of seedlings, those would be the F2's.
Once you start breeding and re-breeding plants, that is when you start to get the unusual characteristics.
So I will eventually use some of my seedlings (I have over 1000) to make other plants. It will be interesting to see what I get!
