First, let me say...I am not an expert on hybridizing plants. OR plant genetics. I am a dabbler, I dabble with my own stuff, and only Anthuriums, nothing else.
This is an Anthurium hybrid I made, its one of my oldest seedlings, 2 or so years now Thumb of 2022-08-16/Gina1960/828ae9
The plant that made the seeds (the ovule plant) was this plant, Anthurium forgetii
Thumb of 2022-08-16/Gina1960/abf80e
I'm not totally sure who the parent plant was. It might have been this one, Anthurium magnificum
Thumb of 2022-08-16/Gina1960/b02155
Or it could have been this one, Anthurium besseae x magnificum
Thumb of 2022-08-16/Gina1960/5184d0
Regardless of who the pollen parent was, this seedling is what is called an F1.
F1 means 'first filial generation' and refers to the seedlings produced from the first cross of 2 different parent plants. (I only know this because I red up on it LOL)
If I were to use the pollen from the seedling or pollinate the bloom it just made (I won;t pollinate it because its too young, but I could use the pollen) and get another set of seedlings, those would be the F2's.
Once you start breeding and re-breeding plants, that is when you start to get the unusual characteristics.
So I will eventually use some of my seedlings (I have over 1000) to make other plants. It will be interesting to see what I get!

Congratulations on the fruits of your endeavors so far, Gina! Thumbs up

The succession of filial generations (F₁, F₂, F₃, etc.) is quite strict. Each successive generation must come from the mating of siblings of the previous generation. Thus, an F₂ generation would be produced by crossing F₁ plants only. The F₃ generation would be produced by crossing F₂ plants only, and so on. Crossing an F₁ with an F₂, for instance, is not within these parameters.

Crossing an Fx plant with anything other than another Fx plant with the same parents would start a a new filial line. This new filial line would be once again be an F₁ generation.

@Leftwood I reread what I read the first time and I see where I misunderstood. I'd like to thank you for pointing this out to me. This is the newest aspect of my hobby with plants, making hybrids and growing from seed. I certainly have many many sibling seedlings of several different crosses so re-crossing sibs will NOT be a problem LOL.
I think perhaps in my mind I was thinking 'complex hybrid'. One of the plants I have been getting a lot of seed from is a hybrid called Anthurium 'Mehani'. The cross all on its own is Anthurium (magnificum x [radicans x luxurians]) x crystallinum. So it already has 4 genetic contributors. I have crossed it with a variety of things....back with magnificum, with another hybrod I have had for over 15 years, A. besseae x magnificum, with Anthurium forgetii, Anthurium papillilamnum, and now anthurium Besseae aff, an undescribed species being sold as that right now until (if) it gets described officially

Of course, the filial lines are only so designated so we as humans can keep the parentage and gene mixing straight. There is nothing wrong with crossing an F₁ with something other than an F₁, for instance. In fact, I would certainly recommend it as a continuing possibility. What you want to do is pick the parents with the qualities you hope for in their progeny.
