Thread OP

Hello! New member here looking for some advice please. I have an area under an established magnolia tree that I was going to put big daddy hostas under. The magnolia gives plenty of shade except for one side. There would be one plant that would get too much direct sun. This spot gets full sun from about noon until 3 - 3:30. Are there any varieties of hostas that could handle this? I'd love to stay with the large leaf hosta varieties to hide the continuously dropping magnolia leaves if possible. Thanks for any ideas!

Why not plant a small flowering shrub on the sunny side.
Most hostas will burn in summer while in hot direct sun.
I’m so busy... “I don’t know if I found a rope or lost a horse.”

Would help to know what zone you are in , I have many Hosta that get way more sun then 3 1/2 hours. Sum and Substance can take a lot of sun in my zone.

Bumplbea yes I thought about doing that...just wanted to make sure I had exhausted all hosta possibilities first. There are so many pretty flowering shrubs now!

NJBob - sorry! It would be helpful to have that info. I'm zone 6b.

First off I forgot to say welcome to the site. I am in 6a and have some that get full sun all afternoon. Only thing is that the one you put in that area will require a bit more water.
