Gypsy & Onewish, you're painting a picture of a plant with quite a wide range of tolerances - looks like I could try overwintering potted plectranthus in our cellar, which has some light and stays around 50-55*F throughout winter. I'm certainly going to try it next winter - thank you.

Chelle, oops - maybe you and I crossed oinks when wildflowers offered seeds to our swap - this is going to be a well loved plant.

Some years, in fall when most flowers have stopped, Plectranthus argentatus will put out long, thin wands covered with zillions of tiny flowers in our garden - the whole effect is of an ice blue cloud - and it brings a very-hard-to-find silver in our shady moonflower garden. Plus, occasionally in a mild winter here in zone 7, it has successfully overwintered outdoors in the ground. It will be interesting to see how Plectranthus barbatus compares to that.

I just planted the second batch of seeds this morning... Hilarious! like I need another? I can only overwinter one plant anyway! Rolling on the floor laughing Oh, well. Perhaps I can think up a neat display in the garden somewhere... Big Grin I do have an old washtub out there that gets sun now, but will be shady through summer -might try some there as strictly a foliage plant.

Since we'll be moving...and all the beds have gotten to be too much to maintain....and water bills here are horrendous...I've taken out the stands of plectranthus barbatus, bu this is a combo of the all green and the variegated, in a large pot, in case I want to take it with me...

These in the old washtub are in mostly shade.

These have surprised me; they're in mostly sun -and while the pansies almost didn't survive our vacation absence, the Coleus forskohlii never missed a beat. Big Grin Hurray!
