That is an impressive display!

Our retriever Maverick is having emergency surgery this evening. Unknown to us, he has quite a few kidney stones, and we woke up to him having a crisis of sudden and complete blockage this morning. So I'm without my garden helper for the next 24 hours.

Best wishes and get well quick, Maverick!

Fingers crossed he recovers quickly.

Maverick's helping me cut some roses to make a bouquet for a friend who's going through one of life's challenges...

Yay! That means all is now well with him. You two created a very cheery bouquet.

He's on the road to a full recovery, but still has a little ways to go! He helped me pick out the following:

I have a bunch of roses needing lots of help. I'm just too tired to maintain them from after work. Weeded pots black spot and so on.

None of those things will kill them. As long as they get water they can wait until you have time to baby them.

My grandfather, whom I'm named after, was an accomplished chemist who won a patent for linoleum tiles when he worked for Armstrong Cork, and also helped develop gas masks for the US Army during World War I. He also worked for Stanley Tools for a while, as well as Johnson Inks where he developed color inks for the printing industry. But outside of his professional work, he was a rosarian and a gifted artist. This is one of his drawings, about 16" x 20", in which he envisioned a classical scene of pillars topped by roses. It's about 100 years old, and is a prized heirloom.

Maverick would like to thank everyone who sent him virtual hugs and good wishes after his emergency kidney stone surgery. He had his post-surgical appointment with the vet today, who said he was making a full and remarkable recovery.

Whoop, whoop!

And the three appointments needed to diagnose, operate, and follow up only cost $10,135. But he's worth every cent!
