I am growing Purple Passion sweet potatoes this year and would like to grow again next year without buying new (relatively expensive) plants. Can I just root and overwinter some vine cuttings or do sweet potatoes only produce more potatoes from sprouts of the eyes on the potato?

I've rooted lots of sweet potato vines from cuttings.

I'd probably go ahead and root them now to give a head start... they don't grow well in the house.

You could also dig them up after it frosts... they produce tubers just like the ones grown in the veggie garden...

Thank you Stone. These are my veggie sweet potatoes and I knew the vine cuttings would root but I didn't know if they'd produce tubers next year. Good to know they will. I thought maybe tuber plants had to be grown from eye sprouts like white potatoes.
