When you start a new african violet by sticking a leaf in a new pot and watering it. When new babies start popping up around the leaf should you separate each one into its own pot? If so at what point do you do this? Thank You!
Happy Gardening :-)

Hi! I would wait for them to have 5~ or so leaves. Or big enough to the point they actually get large enough to interfere with eachother's growth.

Like....
this big (or a bit larger)

Set up a new set of shelves in my basement grow room for African violets... I used to have over a hundred (many years ago), then moved and had to give them away. I've missed them, so have decided to get back into raising and keeping them again.

Ordered just a few as plants, most as leaf sets ... and just started some from seeds. It will be interesting to see what happens.

@adknative I see you've been implementing the leaf-tip-cutting technique! Cool!

Yes, I think it helps the leaf focus more on creating new roots and growing plantlets, rather than spending its energy trying to support a leaf that does not need to grow.

Update... first plantlet has popped up from one of the leaf cuttings. This is (Lyon's) 'Magic Charms' (as labeled), which they describe on their site as "Huge, double and semidouble pink stars, with frilled edges, load each flower stem. Magnificent flowers are outlined with a thin raspberry edge, and are bountifully flecked and streaked with blue fantasy."

I have (2) AV that I've lost the leaf cuttings ... one tiny little pair wilted almost on arrival from a shipping delivery delay of (5) days at the post office ... shipped during bitterly cold weather and caught Thanksgiving postal shutdown. The other 'appeared' to be doing fine, then I have just discovered both leaves have died... Shrug! All the rest are rooted and looking great. Crossing Fingers!

For cuttings that were put into their pots and only actually started barely a month ago, I am very pleased to see a baby popping up.
