Yesterday, I received seven bulbs of California soft neck garlic. I immediately broke the bulbs into cloves. However, I don't plan on planting the cloves until the first of October, several weeks away. I read that I shouldn't break the bulbs until planting time. Are the cloves ok for several weeks? Store the cloves in a dark spot until planting? Plant them now, Sept. 16th (I live in central California)? Any other advice? Thanks.

They should be fine waiting until you plant. Keep them dry, cool and dark until planting.
