This was a fun project for my fall plantings. I took one pallet and broke it down and cut it into pieces, and assembled them into a raised bed planter for my annuals. The dimensions of the actual planter are 28" long by 11" high by approximately 20" deep. With the table underneath, it gives it a total height of approximately 32". Not too low so you have to bend down too far over. How much did this cost me to make? Almost nothing. The palette was free. I found the wood for the table on the side of the road last summer. I did pay for the nails and the screws, a small bag of potting soil and big bag of top soil, and the skinned knuckles, and a big bruise on my shin where I missed with the hammer once! Ouch! That hurt as bad as the knuckles!😀 But all in all it was a fun project. It took me about 4-5 hours total. The hardest part was breaking the pallet down.
I tip my hat to you.

palette is a painters smorgasbord of colors. Pallet is wood skids to hold 'stuff'. Just thought you might want to know... Whistling

The problem in the UK today with pallets, is that most are for "single use," so are constructed of really poor timber that isn't suitable for DIY jobs.
Ideal pallets are those like the ones used to transport packets of sugar to stores.
Even better are the blue "Chep" pallets, but both these are hired and have to be returned.
Firms now rarely chuck out good pallets, as there are companies who will buy them.
"I don't mind if you don't like my manners, I don't like 'em myself. They're pretty bad. I grieve over them on long winter evenings." (Philip Marlowe to Vivian Rutledge).

The pallets I used (before the Chep pallets time) on my reefer unit,(refrigerated 48'and 53' trailers) were generally oak, but occasionally light weight crappy wood. In the reefer those pallets were wwet, or frozen and nasty, and weighed a minimum of 75# easy. We were tickled to have to deal with the Chep stuff. Made our lives much easier when we would bounce from palletized to slip sheeted to floor load products. The single use stuff is intended to be shoved in dumpsters for after use.
I see some gorgeous stuff made from pallets, but I cringe remembering where I used them.
