Oh, don't misunderstand my joking around. I know I can handle it. It is just that I take these assignments or tasks very seriously.
The show runs very, very smoothly if I do my job. Judging runs very smoothly if I do my job. But along the way you are always on alert for a job not being completed or a key person not doing their job at the last minute. But when you have participated in as many shows as I have, you kind of are prepared for anything.
I guess a little trepidation is there because of the unknowns, the fact you hope things run smoothly. It is such a darn good feeling when it works out. Vendors go home with lots of money, attendees go home with some new plants and the club members just feel good. Everyone celebrates the success, they have a few new plants and it is immensely satisfying to have the memories of a job well done.

I really like flowers one and three a lot. I already know that a good deal of this is because of the "judge in me"!
Golden Tang by Sagarik Wax has just a very nice presentation. The petals held horizontally with the sepals almost perfectly spaced at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock really makes me just marvel at this flower. And just now I am mentioning the beautiful contrasting lip! That is a real beauty Lindsey!!!
Then look at nodosa x Hsinying Anna!! I see the same confirmation or arrangement of petals and sepals. And another beautiful lip!!!
This is why I really enjoy some of these nodosa type crosses. With a big, full flower we sometimes lose sight of just how gorgeous these little beauties can be. You do not necessarily see this confirmation with starry flowers but these two have it in abundance!!! Really gorgeous little gems Lindsey!! Lovey dubby I tip my hat to you.

My triangle palm bloomed and produced a bucketful of seeds. I've rooted many of them in pots and when I went to check on them today I found a surprise! I had to do some research as I hadn't seen this before, but apparently it is a Chinese crown orchid and is a category 2 Florida invasive plant species. It is recommended to completely remove the plant and deposit it in the trash. It is growing in the pot with my triangle palm seedlings.

In my past, I was in the military and having lived on a farm had to use a rifle. But, in my present find it very difficult to have to kill anything. So, I'm considering transplanting the orchid to a pot and keeping it out of the garden. But, I'd like to know what ya'all think about it?

I have grown all kinds of orchids, right now I have a couple of hundreds. NOT a single one is native to Michigan! I really would not consider that as even an issue. If you like it, grow it.
What gets me a little peeved sometimes is when people visit preserves, parklands, historic homes and see a terrestrial or native orchid growing within the park. They collect it and take it home and try to grow it. I simply refuse to give advise on how to grow an orchid under those circumstances.
So Gheri, it's on your property, grow it if you like it.
For my taste, I do not find the plant or the flowers to be all that attractive. Besides, it would be too tall underlights.

I have read where they are invasive and I guess since it appears to have just popped up in Gheri's pot, they do spread easily. I wonder what they are crowding out however, that is often why something is deemed invasive. I would keep it and watch carefully for any seeds and remove them before they mature.

I think to be invasive, non native and spreads easily is enough.

I haven't heard of these plants growing anywhere yet where they are so dense as to crowd any native species out.

Apparently they are having a problem with them in South Florida. I didn't have the heart to kill it, so it's in it's own pot indoors far away from any plants. I don't have grow lights, but don't need them. It popped up in a very shady area in one of the pots with my triangle palm babies. And I have a huge room that is all glass on 2 sides so there is enough light. And, since it's considered invasive it will probably survive without much fuss. It's hard for me to think of orchids as invasive. This one is so tiny, the bloom would fit on the tip of my finger.

So, that was my big, or should I say, tiny orchid excitement for today. I'm glad I know about them now, if I find anymore in the garden I'll know what to do. Now, why can't a really beautiful orchid just pop up in my garden? Rolling on the floor laughing

Keep an eye open in your garden, where there's one, there will surely be more of those Chinese Crown orchids. They seed themselves generously and love to grow in mulched beds as well as elbowing into your pots.

Keeping it indoors is a good idea to prevent this one you have from spreading it's seeds around. But they certainly are a problem plant. I'd recommend you pull it and trash it when it's finished blooming. Bag and trash the spent flowers, too.

My lovely little pinstripe NOID Den - one of my old Apopka bargain buys - is busting itself with seven - yes 7 ! - new stems blooming or coming along. I think orchids respond to death threats like hurricanes and put out extra effort to blooming after these storms go by.

Strangely enough, my Thunderstorm Orchid - Den. crumenatum - has not bloomed after either of the hurricanes. Hmm, must not be the low barometric pressure that stimulates it to bloom, I guess. There was no thunder that I heard with either of the big storms that went by. It must need to be "scared" into blooming by thunder, maybe?

Lots more bloom coming along on V. Lou Sneary 'Blue Bird', now a big, sloppy looking plant in need of dividing Sighing! I really don't want to commence tearing this baby apart . . .

Elaine, the plant looks happy, blooms beautifully, I wouldn't divide it either! You can lift it, so no problem.
The Dendrobium looks great too! You think a hurricane threat is equivalent to a salad fork? Smiling

The 'Blue Bird' is on a piece of cork that is completely engulfed with masses of roots. Surely the reason it's so happy, but it looks very messy. I'll probably wait until the cork disintegrates, then try to do something with it.
Thumb of 2022-11-15/dyzzypyxxy/b5f030
Yes, the salad fork is definitely a death threat too, but not quite so menacing as a hurricane, even if the plant is carefully sequestered indoors.
