Hi, not to be nosy or anything; just wanted to give you a warning that it's listed as invasve. I just wanted to pop in to say to be careful where you plant/put it
I just posted in "what else do we see and grow in 2022" in the orchids forums. My triangle palm produced a bucketful of seeds this year, so I potted some up to root. When I went to check on them today I found this orchid growing in the pot. I hadn't seen it before, so after researching found that it is a category 2 Florida invasive plant species. They recommend completely removing the plant with all parts and disposing in the trash. I find it difficult to kill anything so I'm considering potting it up and keeping it out of the garden.
It is now in its own pot inside, far away from any other plants. I didn't have the heart to kill it.
I'm glad that I know about it now, I'll be on the lookout in my garden to see if any more and I won't let them live free range.
While it may not be living "free range" keep in mind that (from what i just read) it will leave the tiniest little "bulblets" behind. And the seeds are like dust and get on clothing as another mode of spread. No wonder Florida is being over run with it!
I would get rid of it! Maybe enjoy it for a couple of weeks then pour a few pots of boiling water through it to kill bulblets. But if it makes seed in that time (since it is blooming) it likely has or will get on clothing etc. Honestly, this plants acts like an invader from outer space!
Yes, deadhead. But you still should do something to ensure "death to the seeds". Certainly don't toss in comp pile, yard recycle bin, or even a neighbor's yard... someone you don't like. It will come back to haunt you.

If the flowers are removed as soon as they are finished, the seeds will not have a chance to mature. Unfortunately I have not been able to find the maturation time, but the comments I have found indicate that it is surprisingly quick for an orchid.
