A lot of these stories and movies leave one with more questions than answers. What questions have fiction about the future inspired in you?

Why are people so often all wearing the same clothes? Why is there never a scene showing the fashion meeting? "...this year we're going to wear orange with black stripes..."

Why are so many of the stories post-apocalyptic? If nothing good happens after an apocalypse, why would we have one anyway? ; )

Why is there only one style of dรฉcor throughout all of the rooms/buildings in the future?

Why is the lighting usually so bad?

Is it possible to have those automatic doors w/o the "woooosh" sound?

Do they ever tell us the year when carpet became illegal?

nature keeps amazing me
monochromatic color[or lack thereof] seems to me to represent total emersion into one culture. there is nothing to distract the eye-nothing to disrupt your thoughts. just complete absorbtion into the ruling group. dim lighting keeps the mood low level and hush hush except for the whoosh of the air lock doors. no need for color and individual clothing styles-that would create chaos. think of the eloi in the time machine.

I hate carpet! And yet we couldn't get a new mobile home without it. So I just put up with it. Vacuum cleaners only keep it clean for a certain time. Then it needs to shampooed or steam cleaned. Spot treatment sometimes helps. Ugh! I'd rather sweep and mop just about anything other than carpet.
I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

I'm with you on the carpet!! While it feels good under the feet it's way to much to maintain, especially if you live on gravel like I do. We got rid of carpet in the main areas but still have it in the bedrooms. I want it all gone. Give me area rugs instead. I can change them out when they get nasty and won't cost that much.

Is kind of interesting how someone's idea of the future meant a sterile interior environment, as if distance from nature defined the timeline. But in many ways it has..? And apocalyptic events are set with people thrown back into the natural world. Then those become cliches* that many fall back on.

Plant it and they will come.
