I am in zone 6, Missouri.
What are your thoughts or experience with letting a clematis lay on the ground to vine out?

I'm all for it... They will often root along the vine and those new plants can be dug and replanted elsewhere.

Marilynbaker, that would depend on the yard or the variety. Each garden is different and each grower has their own style. I personally love a clematis in the upright form so that one can see all the blooms!
