We have had one Canadian goose hanging around down at our farm pond for the past 3-4 days. Seems to be healthy although I have not seen it fly. I'm thinking (a) it may have lost its mate, or (b) it may be protecting a nesting female. I'll just keep monitoring it to see what happens.

It's still floating around on a daily basis. I had three large dogs down there the other day, and the goose was definitely in aggressive mode, so I'm hoping there's a nesting female and we'll get some babies. Not sure how long they have to sit.

Well, the goose appears to be gone - haven't seen it for a couple days. So perhaps it was mourning a lost mate, who knows... We did have a little duck family down there for a bit but I never had my camera with me and they were also apparently just on a stop-over and are now gone. I'm pretty OK with that - much as I like to see the little babies, I'm glad no ducks/geese have adopted our pond as a year-round home which I understand can get quite messy. Just wish I had a better camera for those long shots.

And now it's back again, just floating around.
