The use of color echo pulled my eye to those Iris, I find that very visually effective. The white snowflakes against the gold sedum is echoed in the yellow and white Iris, such a nice way to pull the eye to smaller, interesting flowers.

Neal, these gardens are only 4 years old. I am a Northern gardener, new to the South. The warm sun and long growing season have been so much fun! Alot of growing from seed sown directly...just such a pleasure as the warmth of the soil makes germination fast compared to what I was used to.

One is as though nothing is a miracle.
The other is as though everything is a miracle

I am so enjoying the pictures. Janice, your borders are charming. I love the combos along with the garden art for more visual interest. Just enough to make you wander up the path to see the next surprise without being too much:)
A gift from a wonderful friend:) He brought it to me last year just as it was about to bloom. Imagine my joy when it shot up two huge bloom stalks. Swoon time, lol!
Not sure what the conventional wisdom is on that, Charleen. I got mine in the spring with a big ole stalk on it. I planted it right away and it bloomed like it'd never been moved. It was potted and gets some shade during the day.
They grow new roots and leaves after flowering, so that would give them time to settle back into the garden before cold weather returns. The site mentions that if you wait too late, you may not get blooms for a year or more after dividing.
