Bea, I had forgotten how long the ears are on mule deer! Blinking

A few of our visitors during the past year - the ones I managed to "capture"!

I'm sure glad I don't have to use the scientific name for that hawk moth on a regular basis, Duane! Hilarious!

Sandy I agree with ya bout the names. Why are they still using Latin for names anyway? Latin is a dead language since it evolved into French, Spanish, and Italian. Lol
I posted links on this message strand to real short videos of some Spinx/Hawk moths feeding on our White Butterfly Ginger if you would like to watch them. It's amazing to watch them use that big long proboscis to feed with. Can see it curled up in the pic below of the Privet Hawk Moth.

I love watching the sphinx moths - it's been a couple of years since I've seen one (until the one in my post showed up). I was a little puzzled where that one came from because all of my tomatoes are grown in an enclosed high tunnel, but then I realized that the nicotiana plants in a semi-shady flower garden were probably where the caterpillars were hiding. Hope I'll have more of them next year and that they'll visit the flower boxes on our deck Crossing Fingers!

Sandy I never saw any around here till I planted this
Hedychium coronarium
"White Butterfly Ginger"
that a dear friend gave me before she passed away. She gave me a handfull of rhizomes twice they grew into clumps where yellow spots are on pic. I decided to separate it and instead of two clumps I planted two rows all along the back of the flower bed, a row of lilies in front of that, row of hosta in front of that, and a row of Hardy Garden Amaryllis all along the front. It smells so good just a couple cut stems in a vase will smell up 2-3 rooms. I think you can eat the rhizomes like indian ginger as well. In memory of her I pass on starts to everybody I can. It's not winter hardy in your zone but a large container full would be beautiful and attract those moths. In winter just put container where it won't freeze and forget it till spring then start watering again and it will pop back up.

If you would like some get a priority mail padded flat rate envelope like in pic. Pre pay for it bout $10, address it and fold it up and put into a standard envelope and mail it to me at...

Philip D. Meade

Ashville, Alabama 35953

I'll be more than happy to stuff it full and send it back to you. Will only cost ya the $10 and whatever a first class stamp costs now so say $11 total. The envelope is padded and is one rate any weight so it won't cost any more. I have yellow Angel Trumpet cuttings rooted right now to. I can put one of those in to if ya want. Below is what I'm talking about.

I know it's not a good time of year but if you want some just save my address and mail the envelope to me this spring or whenever you are ready for it.
No need to even tell me ya sent it I'll remember when it comes in the mail and I'll send back to you probably the next day after I receive the padded envelope. 🙂

Bea I extend you the same offer as I did Sandy in the message above. The ginger and yellow Angel Trumpet both would be winter hardy in your zone. The plants would die back to the ground each winter but regrow each spring like here in Alabama, and I can dig rhizomes anytime if you wanted to get it and plant it before spring comes. 🙂
