I got these for a screaming deal, 10 bulbs for $29.95 so that's $3 apiece. Then I saw a display at Lowe's with them marked down to half price as well, so those were $7 apiece, for the larger flowered ones.
Gigi, don't forget amaryllis aren't high-maintenance. They can just be planted in the ground, and left to their own devices. They may go dormant if it gets really cold, but will come back from the bulbs if you remember to mulch them a bit. I just put mine in pots because they were already sprouting and I wanted to enjoy their blooms before I plant them out, but they're going to be "on their own" in the ground after they're finished blooming.
Hmm, where to put them?? They have no fragrance, sadly.
They're only about a foot tall, and two fairly small (for amaryllis) flowers on each stem so far. We'll see what they do when they've had a summer to grow in the garden.
