Beautiful blooms Ellaine and the amaryllis are beautiful too! Are they fragrant? I didn't realize that Some amaryllis are fragrant until lately.

Yes I crosspollinated mine with the old red amaryllis I have. Got some seedpods. It would be interesting to see if they would turn out fragrant too! But it takes 2 years from seeds to blooming.

Some are fragrant some aren't. We once had a home with huge clumps of white amaryllis that had a strong lemony scent. I never knew the variety or found any that heavily scented again.

Yes, I had been avoiding the BBS because their holiday displays (including amaryllis) are probably on clearance and I will be tempted to buy when clearly I have way too many plants! I don't want to have to scramble to protect them from frost and hurricanes, that's when I think my hobby is not fun anymore.

If I smell them and they are fragrant pretty sure I will be tempted to buy!

Me too, I am fighting it but how long can a gal hold out? Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!
These are screenshots posted on FB. It is a local ACE with a lot of amaryllis leftovers. They had 40 different varieties before the holidays. Gorgeous bulbs but $25 back then, I wonder if they are on sale now?

I got these for a screaming deal, 10 bulbs for $29.95 so that's $3 apiece. Then I saw a display at Lowe's with them marked down to half price as well, so those were $7 apiece, for the larger flowered ones.

Gigi, don't forget amaryllis aren't high-maintenance. They can just be planted in the ground, and left to their own devices. They may go dormant if it gets really cold, but will come back from the bulbs if you remember to mulch them a bit. I just put mine in pots because they were already sprouting and I wanted to enjoy their blooms before I plant them out, but they're going to be "on their own" in the ground after they're finished blooming.

Hmm, where to put them?? They have no fragrance, sadly.

They're only about a foot tall, and two fairly small (for amaryllis) flowers on each stem so far. We'll see what they do when they've had a summer to grow in the garden.

I was bad today. The ACE was calling me and I came home with 4 amaryllis, White Christmas, Marilyn, Blossom Grandise and Pleasure. All are in bud still and all already have additional small bulbs on their bases. They should make nice clumps in a year or so. In the meantime they will be pretty in the house. Two little rex begonias and a small Medinilla floranilla Magic came home with me also.

Oh, man! Nice haul, Alice. Our local Ace doesn't even really have a nursery section or hardly any garden supplies. Those amaryllis are going to be magnificent.

I am constantly amazed by the nurseries at our ACE's. I have 3 huge stores within 20 minutes of my home and at least 3 medium sized with smaller but still nice nurseries. I have no idea how many are around Jacksonville, I've never ventured out to see. I have read of two that are supposed to be bigger than the ones I go to. The one I went to today initially had 40 different varieties of amaryllis. Pretty good for a hardware store.

Our ACE doesn't have plants too.

I wish I could go out shopping but I am still too symptomatic to be in public. So I have to let the deals pass me by for now. I think I may have enough energy to go out to the greenhouse and water today, we'll see.I'd like some new amaryllis. We have red ones and a few white ones. I'd like to get some other color variations

A couple of sweet surprises for me today, a survivor from my miniature roses that I bought before Thanksgiving is blooming today. (foliage is variegated nasturtium)

And the first of the variegated nasturtiums opened a flower today, too.

Last year's came in with all gold/orange flowers, so I was delighted that this year Baker Creek offered "Red shades" with the variegated leaves.

Thinking I believe I have some nasturtium seeds around here and they are the red ones. Maybe I should do something with them before it gets too hot.

We have had some beautiful sunrises here this week.
