Here's a first bloom, first year seedling last year. Twisted and 3 fused sepals....ugly puppy.


Got it's act together a little better this year...

I really like the seedling, I love the pink, frilliness (Reminds me of those popped corn chips) and the green center

I knew I had at least one photo...this thread should be part of an intervention program.

The dogs were alarmed by the pictures of ugly daylilies?

The last two, definitely yes.

Just finished looking at all my 2022 pics and I've got more really ugly daylily pictures.

Holly Hill Tangelo may not always be perfect but it's never been this bad.



Glowing Inferno wasn't recognizable to me from this picture. It typically looks so much better than this.

I'll end on maybe not an ugly bloom but a very odd one. Double Sunset Glow with small splotches of color. In all my years of having it I'd never seen a bloom like this.



Oddly enough there were no ugly flowers by late July. They were almost all perfect by then.

I bought mine from Schreiner's six years ago and mine looks exactly like the registered picture on the ADS database. It has always bloomed perfectly and meets all the data advertised. I've noticed some providers often use the ADS picture or "borrow" one from someone else. No idea where Brecks gets their plants but I wouldn't tie them with Schreiner's without more proof than a picture. And wouldn't want you to not have this beautiful daylily cultivar (one of my favorites because of it's perfection, height, bud/branching) because of a bad experience with Brecks.

Now for some ugly seedlings.

Tani x Lavender Blush seedling. This one is going to be given to a good friend. The seedling does get better and Tani does really well for her so maybe she won't get as many bad flowers.



Envy Me seedling. Normally very large, perfect flowers.



Unknown seedling so ugly it's trying to hide!



Gold Helmet x South Seas seedling. Usually perfect flowers except last year.



A House of Orange seedling that rarely has perfect flowers but this was the worst of them all.

"Party Queen"

is the consistently my worst bloomer. The few times it's perfect, it's beautiful. The rest of the time the sepals pinch and curve up, it fails to open all the way, the edges are stuck together in a wad and it's butt ugly. I've moved it several times, hoping it will solve the problem but it prob. needs to be thrown away so I don't fuss over it every year.

"Designer Gown" is a beautiful daylily EXCEPT in a heavy downpour and it rather melts. The petals/sepals get thin, the color washes off, it tears, hangs and gets mushy. Rain doesn't affect buds so it only uglies up that day's blooms. Give it a good hot dry summer and it's beautiful every day.

Elena, that Envy Me seedling wins my vote for ugliest bloom in the thread.
