All I can contribute is what I assume to me a Mediterranean fan palm. I grew it from seed that somehow got into my luggage from Italy in 2008. I am not sure it would be hardy here thru winter so I bring it in. And it's so vicious I dare not take it to the library fearing it'll hurt some toddler.

A beautiful specimen! (and I will never tell about the mysterious ocean hopping seed.)

You did a great job with that! Yeah some of those fan palms can be armed and dangerous. I have a nice little palm I'll have to get a photos of later today when I go out to prep the greenhouse for the 3 night freeze that starts tonight. Temps in the 30's all the way down to Tampa and low 40's in Miami. Ugh. Was hoping we were done

I was hoping you were done too. Husband is floating the idea of going to Sarasota first week of March for spring training.
Plant it and they will come.

Early March in Sarasota should be beautiful. You can visit Marie Selby Botanical Garden, one of my favorites. I have always gone to their downtown garden but I see where they have a new garden somewhere else nearby.

This is one of my fave newer palms. Areca vestiaria Red Crownshaft. I picked this up at Top Tropicals sale a while ago, its growing steadily. Its nicknamed the Poor Man's Lipstick Palm. Same nice color, much more hardy. I have the yellow version too. The crownshafts of these palms are variable and come in several colors. Red, Yellow, Maroon, Purple, Orange.

As there hasn't been much posted here I will update my fan palm. I moved the TV that we watch once in a blue moon and gave it a window

Supposedly they do well inside Sally. I have the plain green form out in my yard in a couple places. Very hardy here

My only palms are a few parlors, and Sagos, which I'm not sure if you wanted to include here.

Parlor palms are inside. I've had them for close to 30 yrs.

This pot has several parlors.

This one used to be in the pot with the others, but a gust of wind knocked it sideways and it was hanging by 1 root. I tried propping it up but that wasn't working so I cut that root and buried all of the bumpy lower trunk in the ground. It got sunburned and had no leaves at one point, but has recovered. That was 2 yrs ago.

What a survival story, Tiffany!
I had a big parlor palm can't remember why >I let it go or did it have reason to die..

I have started date palms from Medjool date seeds just for fun. Gave all the little trees away when we moved in '18.

Adorable, Sally! That reminds me, I do have a sprout of unknown type. I'm surprised it still looks alive still after "the big freeze." From a seed on a tree in FL, hanging where I could reach it from a sidewalk. I think it's 3 yrs old now. Maybe 4. Until the past few months, it just had single spikes. Now it has a few compound leaves.
