Hurray! Lovely to see a hummer, in Argentina no less! Hoping that all the birds managed to get away from areas where snow fell unexpectedly. Thank you for providing flowers for them.

Awww, wish it was me putting one out as well. Start fattening those little flyers up, they are going to have to travel a long way to get to my house (if it is the ruby-throated hummers at your place).

How is this possible? There are so many hummers feeding at the stations and there does not seem to be any fighting going on. At my house, birds from the same family will not even let their offspring feed from the same feeder. Sad

If I get 2 hummingbirds at either end of a 40' area of flowers, they still have to chase each other until one leaves. Maybe they react differently when it's a feeder and not flowers? I can't imagine it either.

Just had this same conversation with my neighbor this morning. She hung up a second feeder near her first last summer and it got no traffic. She asked if hummers are territorial. I know they are, but I've seen these videos too. The only time I see two together in my garden is when they are doing a wild, swooping aerial dance β€” I never know if that's a mating ritual or territorial fight β€” but never sipping nectar near each other. I don't have feeders.

I *think* it's a mating dance. The get out of my space seems more like a kamikaze attack. Hilarious!

Same thing here.

I haven't seen my female hummers for maybe a week or more, it was record heat last couple weeks, so wondering if moved on up North. I think I had two females, one looked smaller, but didn't really see them at the same time this year.

The only time I have seen more than one hummer at the feeder was prior to and after a hurricane blew through. Then they were waiting in line.
A friend videoed the same behavior at that time.
Perhaps the weather threat made them more amenable. My feeders are out of sight from the others so less competition normally.

We have had multiple hummers since Monday. DH saw one a week before, but it didn't stick around.

Well I have a hummer female Rubythroat, she's bigger than the last ones. So glad, since I have so many wildflowers right now for her. Lovey dubby
My camera lens is messed up and I'm training a new puppy, so doubt I'll get any photos.

Love my trip to Ramsey Canyon, AZ few years ago. First week in September. 18 species of hummers migrate in. Awesome watching tons of them at lines of feeders. Recommend the trip. But these days who knows if its safe.

I stopped using that store bought nectar long ago. It even smells bad ~ reminds me of anti-freeze smell. It is so much nicer to be able to make my own nectar, never have to worry about running out of the powder or ready made liqiuid nectar. How good can something that doesn't have to be refrigerated and lasts from year to year in the bottle be any good for our tiny fliers?

I also never buy the ready-made mixes and especially avoid using any dyes. It's just as easy to make my own and know what I'm feeding them. The feeders have more than enough color to attract them, the red dye just isn't needed. I think you'll find most on this forum think the same.

This was on the news flashes today. Points out not to have metal parts on hummingbird feeders. Hope this article comes across in the USA.
