Hi - I'm looking for a book (or better, books) with some nice paintings of English gardens -- cottage, small, allotment, etc. (like, er, my 1000m2 lot with modest house!] rather than yet more about large rich folks' vast estates, country houses, &c.

I like Kew & Jekyll & manor house kitchen garden stuff fine and have numerous books on that, but 'posh' gardens, like posh everything, clogs everything/all the time/everywhere so we've enough -- let's see something 'common people' without internet millionaire riches & a staff of gardeners can relate to!

Something like 'Grandmother's garden - The Old-Fashioned American Garden 1865-1915' by May Brawley Hill in the US is what I'd ideally find... Some history, culture, etc. writing included is a plus, but that's easier to find than some good paintings.

Watercolo(u)rs, oils, impressionistic, expressionist, modernist, cubist; whatever if it shows what the gardens are /like/ in the way that only art can do.

I just /know/ there are such book(s), but increasingly futile web searching gives mostly whatever is for sale anymore.

So I get inane 'how to paint cottage gardens!', paintings for sale on ebay or in museums, and loads of martha stewart 'home decor' type crap no matter how I try to modify searches (goggle seems to get worse by the day and now jams even the text results with /pictures/ of the above 'NON-results' .. for sale...). N oluck with other search engines either. Almost as bad as when you want to search some serious topic only to find some popular TV show or celebrity has the same name/word... In which case it's a lost cause!

OK if book published years or ages ago; I can find used books reliably if I know the title. And if I get a few lead titles, online library catalogs can help me find more...

Any leads? Thanks in advance!

I'll answer myself then, in case anyone ever has the same question lest they find this dead-end.
I bought these so far (maybe a third I can't recall):

The Painted Garden - English Watercolours 1850-1914
Hobhouse, Penelope; Wood, Christopher
London: Pavilion/Michael Joseph, 1988
ISBN 1851451641
(a lot of fancy big ones in this book but also enough 'peoples' gardens' to make it worth the price)

Victorian Flower Gardens (Country series No 12)
Clayton-Payne, Andrew; Elliott, Brent
London: Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1988
ISBN 0297794434
(more cottage & regular gardens in this one)
