Should the Carya genus have a category in the photo type for husk? All plants (as far as I can make out) in this genus have nuts which are surrounded by a husk & the nut is not revealed until the husk splits open. I'm not sure if seed pods or heads covers a husk situation. The nut would be the seed with the meat inside being the fruit. At least that's how it seems to me. But I'm certainly no expert.

And then I also think of Cocos nucifera or coconut palm. They have a husk surrounding the seed.

So simply put, 'fruit' would be checked for the husk. Just because it has extra layers doesn't mean you can't check off fruit.

Sue's right. In the case of Carya, and most other nut bearing trees, the "meat" is the seed. The husk, the shell, the bitter material between the shell and the meat, etc. together make up the fruit produced by the plant.

Okay! Thanks for explaining that for me. Okay, let me make sure I've got this straight ---- I check fruit for a photo of the husk or nut but do not check seed or seed pod for anything on that plant. Is that correct?
