Feel better soon, Jim! (In the meantime, at least you have a great place to sit and contemplate all the work that needs to be done... Whistling )

Gorgeous greenhouse! You did a fantastic job on it! I had gout very badly. I now take Allopurinol for it and it's completely eliminated it.

Unfortunately, I am allergic to Allopurinol. I take Mitagare but only when I feel the gout coming on. It takes a couple of days to calm it down. Just had blood work done last week. My uric acid level is within normal range, as it always is, but I still get gout from time to time. Dr told me I'm one of those people who just doesn't always eliminate enough of it from my body.

Finally getting started on insulating/installing passive heating panels on the north wall. At this point, I plan on insulating/paneling it the full 20-foot width and 8 feet up from the floor. I may eventually cover all the way up the wall, but I want to see how much the insulation/passive heat panels help this first winter.

I am going to use Reflectix insulation (double-sided foil with bubble wrap in the middle) which will be set out about 1 inch from the greenhouse wall. On top of that, I plan to cover the entire 160 square feet with 40 Phase Change panels. Phase change panels have a substance that will begin to melt (at 65 degrees) absorbing heat. When the greenhouse drops below 65 degrees, the substance will begin to harden giving off the stored heat. I have 63 Phase Change Panels (each can store 400 BTUs, so I can potentially store over 25,000 BTUs.) These should add to keeping the greenhouse warmer at night in the winter and cooler during the day in the summer.

Each panel is 2 x 2 feet. Here is the link if you are interested in reading more. https://insolcorp.com/products...

I started by affixing 5 aluminum rails to the interior of the north wall spaced two feet apart. Yesterday, I was able to get 1x2's attached to 3 of the 5 aluminum rails. Hope to get the other 2 done today. I'm using stainless steel cable ties (zip ties) to attach the wood with makeshift "spacers" to position the wood right at the edge of the rail.

Got the bottom and top rows completed. Next, I need to start running the Reflectix. Maybe tomorrow, but there are so many other things to get done too. The summer does fly!

You are amazing, Jim. Do those panels get removed in spring?

No. They will stay there. They will absorb extra heat during the day to keep the greenhouse cooler in the Spring/Summer...and then release the heat during the night.

Today's progress:

Finished the 4th level of Reflectix insulation. Began attaching the Phase Change Panels.

Will continue tomorrow.

Jim, I can't quite picture the end result. You state you will leave the Reflectix insulating panels on. Do you cover everything but a section along the whole length of the greenhouse both sides so that light still enters at the top and then reflects off the insulating panels or are panels applied and then only uppermost removed? I imagine you must be really warm already while working in there.

The Reflectix will stay on the North Wall (160sq ft) for the entire year. It is set out 1.5 inches from the outer wall of the greenhouse creating and insulation pocket. The PCM will be mounted over the interior facing Reflectix. As the PCM solidifies after the temp drops below 65, the Reflkectix will "push" the heat from the PCM panels back into the interior of the greenhouse.

Finally got the greenhouse put back together after that project. I think I'll just enjoy it for the next week or two before I move onto the next phase. (You think I can hold out that long?) Rolling on the floor laughing
