This is (of course) the second pot that I thought would take much longer than the first. Hoping the first pot is the variety 'Oktoberfest' as I like the flowers better - white petals instead of this brownish color. Still, not complaining, they make lots of beautiful flowers for weeks.

Yaayyyy, the Phaius really are frustrating making us sit on tinderhooks waiting for them to open.

I had a second bloom, this one is Orchtoberfest or Oktoberfest. depending on what site you look at.

Thanks, it is a much creamier yellow than that photo shows. I have emailed the hybridizer to get the correct name. I believe it has been awarded as Orchtoberfest but we have it in the database here as Oktoberfest. I think it is a tomato/tomaahto thing.

According to OrchidWiz, it was awarded as 'Orchtober Fest' first in 2004, then as 'Oktoberfest' second in 2018. I'll update the database entry.

Thanks Joshua, it sure is confusing.

My Phaius has a bunch of spikes and they are all still really tight. I was hoping that the plant would have been in full bloom by now with the crazy summer weather we are having here in Florida . It will probably open after next weekend ( my club is putting a display in a show and this would be really helpful to have.)
This opened today and will probably be over the hill for display purposes by then.

I still have one Phaius with tight buds also, I think it has thrips though. What do you think? All three pots are right beside each other but this is the only one with the wonky buds.

Gosh, based on your Phaius reports , mine wont be open until the 4th of July!
This was a division I got from a local breeder , Paul Storm. I've had it a couple of years but it is just now blooming for the first time.


There's another spike on the other side that may or may not open properly, fingers crossed!

Paul used to work at Sea God Nursery which was owned by Raymond Burr ( the actor). It took me a few years to convince Paul that I was worthy of this plant and I'm so happy to have it blooming now!
