Square stems, opposite leaves, probably mint family, but not much to go on there. Any odor if you tear a leaf? Anything else you can say about it?

I agree

I have several different plants that look like this one right now. Until we have more information it's somewhat difficult to place it. Smiling

No odor. Don't have any other information on it. I sure looks like I stuck in the container for some reason, but my Teflon-coated brain also sure didn't hold on to what or why. Hilarious!

Could it be an Agastache? I received several varieties from mamajack last year and am head-hung shamed I let so many of the die. And I can't remember all the varieties It is possible I tried to rescue one that was drowning in clay and lifeboated it with the Japanese Maple.

Oooh, I saw a submitted photo that looked very similar to this plant. Do you think it could be a Coleus? (grasping at straws, here Big Grin )

The square stem is a tell for the Lamiaceae Family. This link lists all the native to Texas plants in that family....if naught else it will help you to know if it is a volunteer, or if you did indeed plant it.

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/lsl/...

Since you say the leaves have no fragrance, I think you can rule out Agastache as descriptions of the genus all start with ....a genus of about 30 fragrant species, many with fragrant flowers in addition to the leaves.

You are at the edge of the growing range for Veronica, so that is a possibility....it does kinda resemble Speedwell.

Think I have it identified. Believe stone was correct, it is a Veronica. Specifically, Veronica spicata Sunny Border Blue. Ordered it in September, 2011. Must have been a really long sleep. <:-D
