OhWell,I haven't lost any of theirs for awhile, except a Ghio intro from 2 years ago which they replaced last summer.
The other vendors have been good about replacing iris that died.

Every order I have had from Schreiners in recent years has had mislabeled rhizomes. Sighing! That I can get many of the iris they carry for less cost elsewhere has pretty much kept me from buying any from them for the last couple of years. I will say though that some of the bonus iris I have gotten from them have been outstanding growers.

If cheaper older varieties are what you are after, my go-to has been Winterberry and Blue J Iris but there are so many other vendors that are so good it almost makes me feel bad to just list those 2. However probably half the Irises in my yard came from Blue J's and I was always extremely happy with not only their customer service but their prices. And I love Winterberry's selections. If you go through the vendor list in this Forum, I would say you are going to have great experiences with the vast majority of the vendors.

Aside from Schreiners, I've ordered from Keith Keppel, Mid America, Superstition, and Stout Gardens. Also the Dwarf Iris Society and Aril Society plant sales.

I've also gotten some from Joe Pye Weed's Garden. They are great for Siberians and other beardless irises.

I have bought most of my iris from Iris City Gardens near my home in Tennessee, but unfortunately they are winding down and only have Louisiana iris these days. For the past two years I have bought 50+ from C and T Iris Patch, and so far only two have died. Their prices are such that you can purchase in large quantities. Some are small, but they always seem to grow into beautiful plants, as shown below.

Hi, I am about 60 miles NW of Nashville. I have visited Iris City Gardens several times over the year. Very nice people.

@wormgirl Do you recall the name of the iris you had posted. Quite nice. I plan on ordering a few from C & T, along with Breeze Way and Mid America.

Looking for Captain Thunderbolt iris. In the past I had found a few vendors but can't seem to locate one this year. Anyone have any leads?

I bought from Stouts in Oklahoma for the first time last year. I can't say enough good about the rhizomes I received. Healthy, robust with green leaves. They flowers they produced were excellent!

I have ordered from bulk vendors like American Meadow, and the quality of the rhizomes is very bad, I got small, moldy and rotten ones. Waste of time and money.

The one I got from Schreiner is very good quality, but it is a little pricy. I also ordered from Burgard Iris garden, it is medium rhizome, very good price and shipping rate.

I also got "dry" rhizomes from Hirts and High Country gardens. Both have good quality rhizomes. I do care a lot about rhizome size, as the wild animals in my garden often chew on the newly planted iris and big rhyzomes with multiple good eyes have been proven to be vital in surviving . The price are reasonable too. They only have very limited selections in the summer/fall. No new species. Fits casual gardeners.

I like to buy from west coast vendors, when I can. It's where I live, and growing conditions and shipping shorter distances helps.. I really like Iris Sisters in Oregon.Robin lives right across the street from Keith Keppel! She does his photography for him too. Her rhizomes are always first-rate. I also prefere to buy from the hybridizers themselves, when I can. Most iris growers are reputable, I find. This is a helpful thread.

i used to buy from bayview gardens( santa cruz, ca), maryott (when they were in san jose, ca), sutton's (when they were in porterville, ca), and nola's san jose, ca., zebra iris gardens (idaho? can't remember now, what state the original farm was located), aitken's salmon creek iris.

but now my net has a wider cast to include: keppel iris, mid america ( ordered tempo two irises), nola's,horton's, mariposa iris , sister's, burgard, & bluej. i've also ordeded from many others that have either sadly gone, or do not sell directly anymore.

i like to purchase from the hybridizers directly. i do tend to order more from gardens that have a website with pictures, and not from paper catalogs. i will not do facebook, so i shy away from vendors who rely solely, on that platform.

my favorites have been keppel, sutton's, nola's, horton's,
aitken's.

MNdigger,

The name of the iris from C and T Patch is Wonders Never Cease. Another of my many favorites from there is Tiger Honey.

I plan on ordering from C&T. Thanks for the lead on Wonders Never Cease and Honey Tiger. I believe I had Honey Tiger on my list. Your great picture has convinced me to place my order. Originally most of my irises were lacey with nice color. Now I am getting into the multicolored striped variety. A little on the wild side are the ones I tend to cut and bring inside.

Thanks for the Thunderbolt lead! It finally quit snowing, got up to 89F so now the irises are coming alive. They are so beautiful. Most of mine our interspersed among other plants. I am thinking of rounding them up and putting most of them in their own iris bed. Don't know if it is worth all the effort but they might warm them up faster if in a raised bed. Thinking
