Hello everyone! I recently purchased a water hyacinth. I live in the tropics and have it in part-sun on my balcony, and it's floating in a container of water. I ordered it by mail and after arriving most of the roots fell off but it is rapidly growing new roots. However, almost all of the leaves are developing brown tips. I know they're supposed to be easy but I'm having trouble finding good growing advice . So any help is appreciated!

Water hyacinth do best in dirty water. That is why they can be so aggressive in waterways & illegal in certain States. Folks will use them to filter their pond water & fish love to spawn on the roots.

If it gets happy it will rapidly outgrow that little container. I'm not sure it likes having its leaves not over the water. I know there's a lot of browning on them here when it gets too hot or windy.

All in all, though, it looks pretty healthy in your picture.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Agree it does look pretty good. Bigger container might help to keep leaves hydrated and regulate water temp plus deeper gives roots room to grow.
