The pictures that I am seeing looks as if this Lily is more on the burgundy red side. Is that correct or is it more of a true red?

It looks like it isn't exactly pure red... Also keep in mind cameras can pick up the color differently.

The following is the description from the 6th Supplement of the RHS Lily Register:

'Commander in Chief ' I(a/b)

H: C. van der Salm I: Van der Salm Farms Inc., pre-
2017
Inside of tepals mainly magenta. Spots few, dark red
circles widely spread across basal one-quarter of each
tepal; nectaries blackish red, semi-open; pollen
reddish; stigma red-purple. Tepal margins smooth,
tips straight or slightly recurved. Stems 1 m.

It's been a fair number of years since I had 'Commander in Chief' in my garden, but my notes say is was a deep raspberry to cherry red. Definitely a tetraploid, it readily made seed crossed to Griesbach tet Asiatics.
Here's an image.

Great photo Jim. I don't think I ever had that one. It is a nice clear red though, almost glossy too.

Hi Tracey, a belated response. I received 'Commander in Chief' from Van der Salm Bulb Farm in 2003. Used it successfully in various crosses with Griesb tet Asiatics through 2011, but have a note it was gone by 2015. None of the progeny are around either. It was attractive for sure.

Regards,

Jim
