Which one is more red, is the chocolate one more of a muddy/brown color? They look similar to me, if they were planted next to each other what would you notice different between them?

Battle Flag was redder in my garden. I don't think Hot Chocolate survived the move, haven't seen it bloom in several years, so that's from memory 3-4 years ago.

I had Battle Flag and comparing it's blooms to pictures of HC, I would say BF was a truer red.

Hot Chocolate is also a true red, just a dark red. No purple.

I ended up ordering the Hot Chocolate from Adelman Peony. I guess it will take a few years to see it bloom but I already can't wait!
Thank You!

If you get it from Adelman's there is a good chance you will see blooms the first year.

Adelman's Hot chocolate didn't bloom the first year hoping it will this year. Crossing Fingers!

Here's my Hot Chocolate from a few years ago. The sun is shining on it. Look at the bottom of the bush for a more true color.
I don't have the other one you were asking about.

Hot chocolate last year in the middle . It also makes a long lasting cut flower.
